Fernie Colour Crawl

This weekend the wonderful little town of Fernie (which I’ve called home for nearly a year now!) put on it’s first ever colour run for the Emily Brydon Youth Foundation and Fernie and District Arts Council. Most of my friends and family know I’m not super keen on running in general, but the thought of getting to throw paint at people over 5km was enough for me to grease the wheels and get involved. That and it’s for charity 😉

The run followed the Elk river on the outskirts of town and finished at the Arts Centre where local favourites Shred Kelly were putting on a post race gig. Ada and I set an easy going pace so as to enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as the unfamiliar (but enjoyable) feeling of running in a large group of people. The Autumn colours were only outdone by the bright powdered paint that covered all the runners and was being launched by the volunteers at certain checkpoints.

We finished the race and enjoyed a cold beer with our colourful wig possy all jamming to the folky up beat music. Even though the weather was overcast, spirits were high and it was a really enjoyable event. For their first year they really did a great job and it’s definitely something worth sticking around to do again next year…
